This tool is ideal for scratching out a parallel line.  Place your ice pick into one of the holes (they are every 1/2") & slide the short end of the L along the edge of the ice.  We have attached a piece of wood to the short end to allow it to easier find the edge of the ice.  Turn the layout jig over & it can be used as a compass.
