Martin & I, Day 1 |

Our Block- 8' x 5' x 26" (Thin this year) |

The first thing to carve was the top section & set aside
If it seems like there is a lot of photos with me in them, that
is because I was the one doing the work & Martin was taking the photos
:) |

After the top section was complete, I started on the curved leaves.
(Martin was taking photos and scratching our balls :) |

Next the Block was carved into a curve & a template applied.
(Martin did find time to scratch some more balls in between showing off
his camera to anyone who would pay attention) |

A rough punchout |

Towards the end of day 1 we froze on the top portion |

I started to shape the rest of the block, while Martin took more photos. |

Martins perfectly carved balls. End of day 1 |

Day 2, continue sculpting the main portion |

Freeze on the balls, while Martin took this photo |

Up high on scaffold alone, Martin on the ground pleading- "one more
shot" while I froze on the last 5 balls |

Torched a few areas for contrast |

One thing about being a team captain is that you have to listen to all
of the suggestions & weed out the 97% that just don't work for you.
Once in a while you get a really good one- Martin suggested that
the sculpture be cracking through the base rather than merely sitting on
top. So we decided to do just that & it really added to the
composition. |

First place |

Finished sculpture under colored lighting |
| All kidding aside Martin was a pleasure
to work with, We joked around a lot & made a beautiful piece of art
together. He did work hard the whole time & carved all 30 of the
balls
